What is a Gatesman?

A Gatesman is a professional who specializes in controlling access to a facility or property through the operation of gates, barriers, and other security systems. They are responsible for monitoring and controlling the flow of people and vehicles in and out of a facility or site and sometimes for maintaining the security of the property.

They sometimes work closely with other members of the security team, such as security guards and security supervisors, and they may also be responsible for performing other security-related duties. If working on a construction site, a Gatesman will work closely with site management and might also be a qualified traffic marshall in order to navigate vehicles safely around site.

Who does a Gatesman work with?

Gatesmen typically work with other members of the site/security team, such as security guards, site managers, traffic marshalls, site supervisors and security supervisors. They may also work with other staff or management of the facility or property, such as receptionists or facility managers, to ensure that the security of the property is maintained. They may also interact with visitors or contractors entering the facility, such as delivery drivers or maintenance personnel not to mention site staff.
